As it was already announced in the previous excursions, next is planed to Zermatt, with the aim of reaching the Matterhorn huette from the Schwarzsee (end point of the telepherique). Since Zermatt is far away, we need to spend at least one night in situ. From the logistic point of view, this excursion needs some more careful preparation. I need to know how many people will come, and of this who will wish to have a bed in a hotel. Here are, then, the questions I ask you to aswer before 7.30 pm (today): 1. Will you come? ( We will leave CERN on Saturday and be back on Sunday evening) 2. Will you wish to sleep in a hotel and me to try to arrange for it, or you are old enough as to solve your own problems? Here are the data of the proposed excursion:
Date: | Saturday & Sunday, 8 & 9 August 1992 |
Site: | Matterhorn Huette - Zermatt (3260 m) |
Classification: | difficult |
Altitude: | 3260 m |
Climbing up distance: | 678 m |
Climbing time: | 3h or more |
Total hiking time: | 5h |
Starting point: | Schwarzsee (2582 m) |

Access: | To reach Schwarzsee, we should take the LuftseilbahnFuri-Schwarzsee in Zermatt. This village can only be reached by train, which can be taken in Taesch, where we can park our cars. The trip from CERN to Taesch (or the decided place with hotel) may take 2h40. |

It is convenient to emphasize some useful items: please do not forget to carry on (wear) raincoat, hat/cap and sun glasses, warm gloves, hiking boots or sport-footwear with thick and non-slipping sole, enough food and drinks for the own consumption. Spear dry clothes and after excursion confortable shoes are very convenient.
Have a lovely weekend! Cheers! Jose.
